When you pick that cute little puppy you never really know exactly what kind of personality they will have as they grow older, like us humans some of them can be a little head strong or maybe have some funny little quirks like chasing other dogs or cars or continuously barking at absolutely everything, if you have a dog like this and you are struggling to get them fully responsive to you in these or similar situations then maybe you should have a look at shock collars for dogs.
Shock collars for dogs are basically remote devices worn around the neck of the dog that emits a controlled electric charge when the owner presses a button on the hand-held remote device. So if your dog starts charging down the road after the neighbors car again you just zap them with the collar, this will momentarily distract your dog what they were doing, allowing you to get the attention of your dog and regain control.
There is much debate as to whether this is a humane way to treat dogs, and I think the argument that we are unable to determine just how severe the pain really is, is a good one, but I firmly believe this device is an excellent idea as a last resort. If your dog is misbehaving in a way that is a threat to him or others around him then you do need to take some drastic action, in the past your options may only have been to put the dog down, and that is something we all want to avoid whenever possible.
There is a surprisingly large selection of shock collars for dogs considering just how controversial they seem to be, one of the best brands for all these types of devices in my opinion is PetSafe and my personal choice when I have to use one is the Petsafe PDT00-10603 Yard-and-Park Remote Trainer, it has a 400 yard range and has a dial of 8 settings so you can control the level of electronic stimulation. I tried it on myself. On the first setting I couldn’t feel anything at all. 2 and 3 tingled a little bit and 4 was beginning to feel uncomfortable but certainly wasn’t some powerful electric shock. I would adjust the level depending on the size of your dog. If the Petsafe PDT00-10603 Yard and Park Remote Trainer is a little out of your price range then have a look at the PetSafe PDBDT-305 Deluxe Big-Dog Trainer which may be more to your liking.
Use the shock collars for dogs very wisely and they might just be a lifesaver for your dog.
